DBOD.No.BC.15/12.05.005/97-98 February 24, 1998 All Scheduled Commercial
Banks (excluding Regional Rural
Banks) Dear Sir, Review, Rationalisation and
redesigning of returns relating to core commercial banking areas As you are aware, with the
objective of reducing the workload on banks, Reserve Bank of India had
appointed a Consultant in February 1995 to look into the present set up of
returns to be submitted by banks to Reserve Bank of India. A review was
undertaken by the Consultant in respect of existing
returns/statements/reviews submitted by banks to Department of Banking
Operations and Development. Consequent upon the recommendations made by the
Consultant, it has been decided that the scheduled commercial banks need not
send 16 returns (as detailed in the Annexure) to the Department of Banking
Operations and Development with immediate effect. All other returns may
continue to be submitted by the scheduled commercial banks to the respective
departments of Reserve Bank of India as hitherto. Yours faithfully (D.V. Jhaveri) General Manager ANNEXURE - I Discontinuance of Returns
